The North Fontana Black Awareness Parade Committee was organized in 1968 by Miss Jessie Turner. In 1970 the County Boards of Supervisors adopted North Fontana as The North Fontana Parks and Recreation District, Governed by the Board of Supervisors soon after adoption. The County Board of Supervisors appointed members of the parade committee as district commissioners. Jessie Turner was appointed chairperson, Ted Davis and Al Caffey were appointed as commissioners, to name a few. The Black Awareness Parade Committee was established not only to organize parades, but to play an active part in supporting the needs of the community. The members of the parade committee have been responsible for sponsoring The Miss Black Awareness Scholarship Pageant, Providing Thanksgiving Baskets to needy families. Gathering toys for Low-Income families at Christmas, Providing employment assistance, Locating Housing and Many other community based-activities.

If your not aware, we have an outstanding working relationship with the County Boards of Supervisors prior to North Fontana being annexed to the city. Over the years we have continued that same relationship with the City of Fontana. Due to the many changes in Our City, we felt it necessary to continue reconfirm our commitment to the community and the city fathers, which is why Our Annual "Black Awareness Parade and Expo" continues to be an Important part of growth and History in North Fontana
